It all started when…

I have written poems and stories since I was eight years old and saw the ocean for the first time. The enormity, the freedom, the overwhelming experience of the sea impressed upon me an awe of nature and a wonder at the beauty of our intricate and precious world that has affected me, shaped me, my entire life. By the time my son was born, I’d been writing steadily and had been ensconced in a totally different genre — adult literary fiction. Following the birth of my son, however, I sat down to write a new story. I stopped to listen, really listen, and I let the new story write me. What emerged was, blissfully, a character — Milo — and a world I felt so connected to it’s as if I have always known him and the magical fairy world he inhabits.

My first book, Children of the Country, was published in 2016. Work has appeared in various journals such as SLAB Literary Review and Crab Creek Review. I teach fiction workshops in Southern New Hampshire University’s MFA and undergraduate creative writing programs as well as writing courses at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. I have an MFA in Fiction from Queens University of Charlotte and currently live in the Midwest.
